I have to explain a TINY bit. The following photos were taking while on vacation in The Philippines last February. I loved seeing poinsettias growing outside in a garden. My mom has always loved the flowers and to see them not in a pot wrapped with foil was somehow thrilling. Seemed a good thing to share now with the holidays upon us.
Have you seen poinsettias in “the wild?” Other plants we usually see grown for enjoyment inside?

VERY Pretty!!! I want to get some Poinsettias.. I asked someone at Lowe’s the other day if you can keep them outside.. she said no! haha!

Very pretty! I have a poinsettia that I kept alive from last year, I am very proud of myself for doing so since I have some trouble with my houseplants…okay, plants in general. But it isn’t blooming. It is just the green leaves. I’m not sure how to get it to put out the red petals…?
Lovely garden poinsettias.

Try placing it someplace dark for a few days. I know poinsettias take a certain number of dark hours in a day where they can have NO light not even artificial.
Hope this helps I’m far from a poinsettia expert!

I heard the darkness makes a difference too. But I’m interested in how the poinsettias outdoors don’t enter dormancy.

Like Rob said, I hear that poinsettias regenerate energy with a period of darkness. Hope that helps!
