I’d seen the t-shirts and sweatshirts for the Salty Dog Saloon, long before I got to Homer, Alaska. The image on them memorable. A lighthouse that was the sort of iconic image you couldn’t get out of your head. And it was something that drew our eyes the minute we could see it on the horizon.
It was such a cool place…. just like we had imagined! But one of the things that was super cool, was something we had no idea about.
The way that people sort of “leave their mark” on the Salty Dawg. It was something that stood out even as you first approached the place! The front door was propped open and something about it seemed part door and part bulletin board.
But inside… well it overtook you! It was incredible. The number of people who had been in and taken a dollar bill signed there name or something onto it and then pinned it to the wall was unbelievable! Of course, we had to participate!
