Okay, I’m hoping my ag peeps come through for me on this one! Its a question from a college friend of mine…. yeah, she’s a city girl to. Anyway, a member of her family just graduated high school & has decided to go to college and major in ag. She’s looking for gift ideas, here’s the note she sent:
You are the perfect person to help me out with a gift suggestion! My closest cousin’s oldest (son) has graduated from high school. He has decided to go to college which was a bit of a shock t everyone. But, he learned he could major in Ag. He has been very active in 4-H throughout high school and lives in an area where ranching is very big (N TX). It was suggested that I just give him money, but I would like to give him something that would be meaningful and that he could use. What suggest you JP country girl? 🙂
So, I’m specifically asking a few of you folks who ranch, know recent high school grads etc for ideas. Meaningful & useful? Come on, I only seem like a good resource cause I have real farmers and ranchers who help me out so often. 🙂

My son was an ag kid too went to JuCo in Clarendon Tx I gave him a great leather bound paper holder thingy to use on judging trips. Of course it was the type you could add new paper too. He used it all through juco and still using at TTU.

Thanks for the suggestions. They both sound like winners to me. I will keep checking for suggestions in the event that he has these all ready.

I like both of the above suggestions. I would add, not specific to ag studies, but I give a laundry basket with supplies for laundry and/or kitchen. These are the last things the ag boys think about. LOL A gas card, pizza coupon book, and a good bag to carry things back and forth are my other ideas. Best wishes. I hope he gets a chance to work in an ag location real soon while he is in school.

Some of the ideas that came through twitter:
@thekansascowboy — Skidmores leather cream
@lavielamour — a really nice Leatherman. Hubs suggs the “Core” model
@nel1jack — he’s going off to college, and you’re thinking of the leatherman, maybe the Knifeless Fuse (a model of leatherman) or a nice fencing tool (with the cushioned handles of course)
@JMJLaurent — My Ag college Freshman always wants boots & North Face jackets-windy out in Lubbock!
