This week I saw a photo a friend posted. Nice picture of his wife. The friend I’ve known since third grade. She was smiling while having a grownup dinner (with three kids, including two with special needs, this isn’t as common as my friends deserve, but it surely is enjoyed when it happens. The intriguing part for me was in the caption. The restaurant they were at was Turkish and it hinted that they were studying up for a trip.
Before I say anything else, I should make it abundantly clear that I am thrilled beyond belief that Carole & Clay will be traveling to Turkey. Its to celebrate their anniversary and has taken a lot of planning to make it all work.
However, I find myself getting travelsick. I don’t mean that nauseous feeling you can have when travel doesn’t agree with you — car sick, air sick or motion sickness. That is about HOW you travel. You can go to the pharmacy and get something for that. If you have it really bad, you may want to go to the doctor for a prescription.
I mean travelsick with no spaces between the words. The affliction is a lot like homesick. When travelsick, its like I am now — its about WHEN you travel. The feeling I have reading about Carole and Clay’s pending trip… it’s not jealousy. Not in the least. I felt an exhilaration that comes from knowing some of the incredible sights they will see and wanting to have that same rush myself.
Yep. I’m a little travelsick right now but that’s ok. I’m always able to make good on that — I will find a way to get a good trip on! In the meantime…. see what you are missing if you haven’t been to Turkey from the photos below and a previous post I did on my visit!
And feel free in the comments to tell me whether you get travelsick (if so, do stories of a certain place get that reaction faster than other places?) or are you more prone to motion sickness (if so, not sure I want the details)?

I love home so I can see how you would get travel sick – I sometimes think it would be fun if my job took me farther than the kitchen, barn or 15 mph down the road in a tractor and definatly farther than town what seems like 15 times a day on some days running kids – but the grass is always greener! I love reading your posts about your travel and ag – I hope you “get better” soon!

I love home too! Some times business travel gets old but the kind of international travel for shear discovery…. never has. It helps me understand the world but also helps me learn more about myself. Its an incredible kind of travel!

Janice, I love this post so much! I’m travelsick right now too. I just went on a trip to Arizona for the first time but it wasn’t the same. I’m itching for a trip I need to use a passport and go through customs! We just had a group from Turkey visit the farm and it has given me the itch to visit there.

Always great to go somewhere new (as long as you can take some time to see sights & meet new folks) but I agree on the need for a passport now & then!

I’ve been having the same feeling. A group from our church is going to Jamaica on a mission trip next week, and I’m really longing to go with them, having been on the same trip a couple of times before. Maybe next year!
