This is the first time in decades that I haven’t started my professional year with a trip to the Beltwide Cotton Conferences, yes I am so old as to have decades old routines. Go ahead mock me. I can take it.
For as long as I can remember, I was heading to the cotton industry’s biggest event. It is the event that brings together farmers, crop consultants, scientists, media and more from across the US and most cotton-producing areas of the world.
The Beltwide is more than “just work” though as hundreds or us have this same routine annually which also gives it the feel of a reunion. The cotton industry is home base in many ways and i know that even my quirks are taken with a smile. So I feel a bit like the cousin who couldn’t get off work and is watching everyone else board planes for home. I’m sure some dear friends will notice I am not at the annual media get togethers and I hope some will keep me up to speed on how those members of the cotton family are that you seem to miss all year long except for the Beltwide.
But at the same time, I am enjoying a bit of a new extended family. Still connecting with members of the larger US agriculture clan and learning a lot in the process! I’m getting 2012 off to a great start personally and professionally…. So change can be okay even if it tugs at you a bit! 🙂

Yes, I can relate. Not in the BCC but other industry. It is a little sad for us not in the industry for I so looked forward to your social media shares and insights on the conf. Strange not a peep out there sharing any word on the NCC or BCC today.

Thanks girl! And the photo of you and Bob made both Doug and I laugh hard!

Why didn’t you go? Just curious.

I changed jobs about a year ago so I focus more on social media across crops and a colleague does cotton specifically with trade media, etc. Its been a great move but every now and then I still miss the peeps! This week though I get to do the Farm Bureau meeting so I’ll bounce back quickly! 🙂

It’s a shame you still can’t go – the conference sounds fascinating! But it sounds like your new job will be just as rewarding.
Janice aka JPlovesCOTTON says
Thanks! Certainly is. Change usually has both pluses and minuses…. this is largely a good change, just wish I was hanging with a few longtime friends too. But life is good. Thanks for stopping by Ann… Missed doing a WW but I’ll be back in full force next week!
