Truly Thankful on My Birthday

Today was another in a long line of birthdays for me. Some of you know how many but I’m not telling mainly because I generally try to live a bit younger than the calendar shows.

Choosing How to Celebrate

Since my birthday is frequently alongside Thanksgiving, it has been easy to celebrate with awesome people in my life. Sometimes it has been at my mom’s, sisters’ or my house and other times, it has been on the road.

I have celebrated my birthday in a half dozen states and a few foreign countries. Today, I spent my birthday in Los Banos, CA on a pheasant hunt. Though I was shooting photos not birds. 🙂

Greetings from Family and Friends

I love touching base with friends & family and birthdays are a great time to do just that!

I can admit it. I am old enough to remember birthdays before Facebook. There would be a combination of phone calls, cards in the mailbox, in-person wishes and emails. Now there is a proliferation of Facebook posts. So many that Facebook has figured out a way to bunch them into a single group so they don’t take over your wall!

Does this mean birthdays are less personal in the way they are celebrated?

Nope. Lots take time to personalize the message on Facebook. Gotta love a Brahman cattle telling you humpy birthday or Holsteins in party hats! My sister and nieces have always called and sung to me on my birthday. I love it! And this year’s included Jake being goofy. What a smile it elicited! Talked with mom, a dear cousin insisted on calling, a few friends texted and a few more tweeted. Saw my friends Ray & Bryson who wished me happy birthday in person too.

Birthdays are different based on where I have them but no matter what, lots of folks can find me to tell me happy birthday? That’s pretty cool.
