Getting ready for a niece's graduation celebration
I love it when my blog gets people talking & last week’s food poll on barbecue sure did that! It even spurred a certain friend to tell me that he was taking me on! And yes, he mounted a campaign on Facebook and Twitter AND YET MEMPHIS pulled pork won!
To promote some healing, I’d like to set this week’s poll in a happy mindset. One that asks how you like to celebrate a special event. My assumption is it involves food! I mentioned that for my grandmom’s big birthday that we went out for ice cream and a little later my friend Jill said to welcome Independence Day they make their own. Same thing could be seen as we talked steaks… Some talk about their grill, others talk about a restaurant.
So this week’s question is, how do you celebrate big events – birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, job promotions, etc? The question is simple but i’d love to hear how you make that unique. That is not something we can do by multiple choice! I hope I get lots of stories.

I prefer a home party….it just seems more relaxed and you’re not rushed to leave the restaurant.
Our girls are two weeks shy of two years apart, and Thanksgiving usually falls right in the middle. We try to have a cake for each, and those family members who can attend either or one attend. We always let the birthday girl pick the menu for the day, all three meals (lunch if it falls on the weekend). I was going to bite the bullet and have birthday parties this last year, but harvest was still in full swing, AND my husband’s back went out. Not the right time for the hayride I had envisioned. Hopefully, harvest will be a fruitful and EARLY one this year, so we can try having a house full of 5-6 and then 7-8 year-olds this fall. I also hope that my husband’s back will survive harvest. He had his third surgery this winter, and this time the surgeon fused his two lower disks together, So far, he has been very healthy all year. Please, someone knock on wood and say a prayer for us. I hate to tempt fate.
Celebrations on the farm, though, are kind of dictated by what is going on. It seems like every holiday from Mother’s Day through Thanksgiving is dependent upon what we are doing in the fields: planting, spraying, hay, wheat, bailing, harvest, and field work….. The joys of living the good life 😉
Have had a chance to celebrate two birthdays this weekend! One involved going to a favorite sushi restaurant and the other was a great party at home! Love both people and loved both celebrations!
